About Jim Weedon

I am a multi-award winning director, editor and writer, working extensively across Advertising, Feature Films, TV Drama and Music Videos. My accolades include D&AD Pencils, British Television and Advertising Craft awards, LIA awards and many more. My long form work includes the BAFTA winning TV series Taboo and the Oscar winning feature film Gladiator.

My attention to detail, distinctive visual style and the importance of sound sets my work apart in such highly competitive markets. I began my career as an editor working with such talents as Ridley Scott, Oliver Stone, Jonathan Glazier and Jake Scott before moving into direction.

I have co-developed/written advertising content for numerous brands and charities such as the SYFY Channel, Metro Game, Defiance, MNDA, Combat Stress, UNICEF and the Changing Faces Organisation.

My working relationship with Ridley Scott has lasted over 20 years and seen collaboration across multiple genres and projects. A recent highlight being Hennessy 7 Worlds launched at the Oscars.

I first broke into music videos as the youngest editor in Soho cutting for bands such as Jamiroquai, U2, Unkle, Blur, Stereophonics and Radiohead, followed by commercials soon after and in 2002 was awarded a D&AD Pencil for Outstanding Editing for an Adidas campaign.

My first venture into longer form won the BBC New Directors Award for my short film There was a Man, starring Jessica Hynes. I then followed this up with my hard hitting spot for the Motor Neurone Disease Association.

This film best showcases my position as a visual effects director with strong performance ability and unique visual style. It won a Yellow Pencil at the D&AD awards, Best Crafted Commercial and Best Sound Direction at the British Television Advertising Craft Awards. It combines intimate performance with powerful visuals, seamless effects and flawless editing. To date I have worked in both capacities for such brands as Nike, Adidas, Reebok, BMW, Volvo, Sony, Rolex, HSBC, Barclays Bank, SKY, Guinness, Samsung and many more.

In 2015 I directed MY first feature called “Sword of Vengeance” starring Annabell Wallis and Ed Skrein. Following that I was brought onboard by Scott Free to work on the new television series Taboo, starring Tom Hardy as a Creative Consultant on the post production to help deliver the visuals, editing, performances and sound in its very own stylistic world.

My Virtual Reality experience for Fanta The 13th Floor won Gold at the Media Week Awards UK. I followed this up with another Gold at Promax UK for outstanding brand identity in television marketing for my SKY Witness Channel idents, as well as working on Ridley’s Hennessy film Seven Worlds as editor. The film launched at the 2019 Oscars. I have recently been involved as director/editor for Glaxo Smith Kline to create digital, fluid simulations of children's faces utilising AI learning and particle creation software.

I am currently attached to direct a coming of age horror/comedy called Venom of the Muse. I have recently finished writing a television drama entitled Fallen Kingdom which has been picked up by Horror Lab productions/Scott Free and currently out to Disney+. And have just completed another psychological horror entitled MANIFEST which is out for investment with STV Scotland and RSA films.
